Goal
Johnny Cee is a musician in Milwaukee, WI who I first heard on the album Dog Eared Dream by Willy Porter while I was in college. The drums really stood out to me as being unique and expressive. I actually had to learn one of the songs as a cover for a band I was playing in at the time and ended up playing along to the whole album just for fun. I was instantly a fan of the band, and the drummer and have been ever since. Many years later, I have come to know John and his incredible talents beyond the drums. He’s a wonderful songwriter and vocalist as well as a teacher and session drummer. I wanted to show all of these talents on his new website.
How I achieved it
The site’s theme is based on the colors from a photoshoot he did for the release of his self-released “Shine” record. He wrote, produced, sang vocals, played piano, acoustic guitar, percussion, and of course drums. I placed samples of the tracks on the front page along with links to stream and purchase the album. The main focus, other than the music is to invite users to sign up for John’s drum lessons and music sessions. With live playing opportunities being wiped out this year, and possibly next, musicians need to find ways to make a living online more now than ever. I break down what’s most relevant to a new student or client, making it easy for them to know what to expect when working with John and how deep his knowledge and experience in the industry goes. I also set up a blog so that John can keep people up to date on his teaching, playing, and session work. I also have a gig calendar that’s all set to go once the live music industry opens back up again. Can’t wait until that happens!
